When we welcome someone aboard as part of SEO company, we have a form for all their contact details. This is very important especially for Filipino staff. When they have brown outs, it’s good to have some other contact point. Have a team leader, so if they can’t connect with you, which is one cons of outsourcing, they can at least check in with their team leader, just to let you know what’s going on.
Know your job description even before you start running an advertisement for it. You can give them the job description in details on a later time, but knowing these details can get you to setting your expectations from them.
The rate for an hour’s work is included in my job description. Being fair with them when it comes to wages is important. They say $2 and $3 an hour is enough wage for a Filipino staff. As for me, I pay them $5 per hour. You might say that this is another cons of outsourcing, but if you look at it positively you will see that you are enabling them to live comfortably. For a project manager, I will pay $ 7 or $ 8.
Taking breaks from their SEO services tasks, I stipulate this in the documentation that they get two ten minute breaks on paid time and they get one half an hour break not on paid time. So that is similar to what you’d be getting working here in Australia. They appreciate those little things, what’s ten minutes here or there, but I’m telling them, I’ll pay for that ten minute break, but if you want to break away for longer than that, that is not on paid time.
At the time a new outsourcing employee is welcomed to the team, I make sure that I hire slow and fire quick. In the beginning, I disclose to them that they are in probationary period of three months. It is also advisable to reveal the purpose of this period. Depending on your explanation, you can make them understand that it is a good set-up for both of you. If things are not working out fine for you with in this period of time, then, you will have to let me know. It is pure business and nothing personal. Those who feel unfit for the job can leave after the probationary period.
These are all done for the main reason of setting expectations. Sharing everything they would need to know in the induction process is essential. That’s why it should be well thought of and in details.
While some consider pricing and the probation as one cons of outsourcing, I’ve had a lot of success with it. I use them to entice people to work harder through their probationary period and SEO training and give them a guaranteed pay rise in three months’ time. It’s something we’ve worked at where someone might come to you and say, I want to work for $8 an hour and you think that role is worth $7.
