Google’s Search Engine places a low priority on Meta Keywords & Meta Descriptions, but a higher priority on off page links as illustrated at the end of this video.

Since Google is the most used search engine world wide, many web developers have placed a lower priority on keyword research. Instead, they focus on link sharing between other popular sites or blogs.

MS Bing still places a high priority on meta keywords, but typically only looks at the first 150 characters.

TheCoastalEmpire January 4, 2010 at 10:39 am

Google no longer …
Google no longer crawls for meta tags. Meta description still helps as far as a “grabber” for when you show up on search results. Keyword research is applied to active content. Implementing keywords into blogs and blog titles and stagnant content. Think of blog title as your new meta description and the blog itself as your new meta tags.

Did I hear that …
Did I hear that right? “Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions add little to no value to your site anymore…”? But didn’t the man just stress the importance of keywords and researching the competition? The funny thing is, this makes sense to me on a instinctual level but I don’t know WHY…Can someone provide me clarity?
